Population Pyramids

Today in class we talked a bout population pyramids. for population pyramids we use them to analyze growth or decline of fertility, mortality, and migration in a given group of people. There are three main types of these graphs. first there is the Christmas tree graph. this graph shows that growth rate is slow, high birth rate, short life expectancy, and these are signs of a developing nation. Then there are the box graphs. these graphs have a low infant mortality, slow population growth, long life, and is a developed nation. Then there is a cup graph these graphs have a low birth rate, shrinking population, long life expectancy, and undeveloped nation. The just of it is the more kids you have and the more working people you have you are a developed place. but If the working people are low and kids high you are a developing nation. if the kids birth rate is slow and not many kids are born that is very bad.

Facts

In Human Geo today we went over CIA facts. we talked about airports located in different countries. We talked about how many airports are just flat grass that is used to land small planes. These are considered airports. It is weird because the United States has 13,513 airports which is the largest amount of Airports in any country, and we are not nearly the largest country. Then China only has 513 and they are the most populated. We also talked about how much United States uses our cellphones. China may Use them more but they have way more people. If the United States and China had the same amount of people it would not even be close. We also talked about a place called Pictorial Island, they only have a population of 54. Overall the CIA docent care how small something is they will do their best to track it.

CIA website facts.

An interesting fact is that the United States has 13,000 airports while China only has 500. The United States is way smaller than China thats why this is interesting. This relates to class because we brought is up in class today.

Another thing is the internet users. This is interesting because United States is higher than Russia which is way larger. This relates to class because it shows how much we use technology

Then there is crude oil. We take the most crude oil out of every country even china. this is interesting because there is a lot more things in China than the US. this relates to class because crude oil helps us make technology.

There is also stuff about the birth rate. This is interesting because the higher birth rates are in the country with low income and poor condition. we talked about this in class.

net migration rate is important. it is the measure of people coming in to people leaving. this is important because this could cause population increase or decrease. its interesting because a lot of people migrate to the US instead of a closer place to them. We also talked about this in class

Rating of Death to Life

Today in class we learned many things. First we learned about crude birth rate. That is births per 1000 people of a population. Then there is the crude death rate. The deaths per 1000 people of a population. After that we learned of RNI (rate of natural increase), that is subtracting the death rate from the birth rate. The net migration rate is the number of people entering and leaving a country during a year. There are many reasons why people migrate. like a civil war, environmental deflation, underemployment or unemployment, and religious persecution. There is also a reasons people pick where they migrate to. They migrate to certain places because better economical opportunities, better health services, religion freedom, political freedom. finally there is the TFR (total fertility rate). This is the average number of children born perf women.

Test Review

Today in class we did a test review, Mr Shick was not happy because we did worse than we should have. I would have done fine but I made the dumbest mistake and mixed up longitude and latitude. If I did not forget which ones were which I only would have gotten two questions wrong. Now I have a low B in the class, I hope I do better next quarter. I also looked at the blog Mr. Shick posted, and to me it looks like we may have a quiz soon. I'm not sure but I will study the words, (word phrases), he has given us so that I can at least know them just incase. We have to know about  RNI (Rate National Increase), death rate, and birth rate which are all intertwined in a way. Humans are born faster than we are dying. In return the RNI increases. Also life expectancy, what age we are expected to die at, the length of life shortens and increases based on condition.

Test

We had a test in class today and it was no hard it all, I was only not sure about one question and may have only gotten two wrong or many a lot wrong. The one I think I got wrong was number twenty-eight, but I forget the question. I was unsure also about question twenty-nine but I think I may have gotten that right. Even though I think I knew all of the questions I don't think I did too well. I do not know what to say for this blog, all I can say is there was a test. I hope that all of the test after this test are just as easy or easier than this test. This is going to be a very hard blog to do because I do not know what to do. I will try to draw this out as much as I can but I do not think I can stretch this into one hundred fifty words today.

Another test revieww

We reviewed a lot of things we did in this lesson. We reviewed starting with explaining our definition of human geography. we also talked about if you drilled all the way to the other side of the earth you would most likely end up in water. Then Demetri took over as teacher and had us play a game. It was a pretty fun game and was great for review. Most of the questions were easy but there were few that I did not know. We talked about the distortion of maps, we talked about how the Mercator map is way more distorted than the Peters map. before that, we talked about the first maps of the known world and who made them. We talked about cartography, and that it is the study of map making. my team lost the game. From this review today I think I will do at least okay on the upcoming test.

Test Review

Today in class we reviewed for a test on Friday. We were studying and got to tell Mr. Schick which questions were to hard to put on the quiz. We talked about the prime meridian and how it always travels through Greenwich England. The prime meridian is zero degrees longitude. We talked about the international date line which is 180 degrees. We talked about the equator and how it is zero degrees latitude. We also studied time zones. we studied by doing problems by finding what time it was in one place compared to another. For instance you could find out what time it was in Chicago if you took our time and minus or add how ever many time zones they are over. We talked about how Honolulu Hawaii is on the west side of Hawaii so it is in a different time zone than the east. We also talked about map distortion and how the Peters map is better than Mercator map

Class Assignment

Ancient cartography. We all know Eratosthenes made a map of the entire world. Name three other things he is known for.
1.     He devised a mathematical technique, now referred to as the Sieve of Eratosthenes, that provides a straightforward way to find all prime numbers up to a specified integer.

2.     He also may have measured the distances from Earth to both the Moon and to the Sun.

3.     Eratosthenes became the second head librarian of the famous Library of Alexandria.

Time zones. If it is 10:00 am in Bel Air, what time is it in…
4.     Portland, Oregon - 7:00am
5.     Greenwich, England - 3:00pm
6.     Toronto, Ontario - 10:00pm
7.     The South Pole - 3:00am

Locations and place names.
8.     List five toponyms that are named after physical features.
- Ocean City
- Little Rock
- Greenland
- Grand Canyon
- Salt Lake City
9.     List five toponyms that are named after Native American places.

16.  Juneau, Alaska - latitude 58.3019° N,      longitude,  134.4197° W

Antipodes. (Don’t worry, this won’t be on the test. But it’s still cool.)
17.  Give the definition of Geographic Antipode. the antipodes of a region similarly represent the area opposite it.

Find the antipode for the following locations. I suggest www.antipodesmap.com.
18.  Beijing, China - Departamento Conesa, RN, Argentina
19.  Bermuda - Perth, -32.301822, 115.239642 (32° 18' 6.6" S, 115° 14' 22.7" E)

Culture And Earths Uniqueness

In Human Geography class on Friday we talked about Culture and what different cultures are. Culture is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group. A culture could be a custom of a religion like Jews wearing Yakima's. A culture is also tradition, or something passed down that a group of people follow or do. Another thing we learned about is Earths uniqueness. Earth is unique because no two places have the same terrain or atmosphere. Some places on Earth are similar because of similar condition. One more topic we talked about is how Geographers describe where things are. Geographers describe where things are by using things around that area and If enough data is provided how long it will take to get there and what direction it is in.

Reviewing

Today in class we reviewed everything we were taught. First we talked about excellence, and the greek word arate. Then, we talked about maps. We talked about the origins of the first maps and both of the maps we look at earlier. The maps were the Mercator map projection, and the Peters map projection. There was a third we talked about that was the Robinsons projection. We also talked about all of the map features suck as the equator, scaling, key, longitude, latitude, time zones, degrees, minutes, and seconds. After all of that we talked about the regions. we talked about the three main types of regions formal, functional, or vernacular. there is also a cultural landscape. That is a place where I region is mainly the same culture.

Regions

In the world there are many regions that have dominate cultures and languages. Also region can refer to terrain. A region is a place that has distinct characteristics. Some regions like Both Korea only can speak one language. Also, reigns tend to have the same climate. We also looked at election votes and all the Democratic regions and the Republican region. We talked about the names of different places and what they are named after. We talked about some of the regions were Native Americans used to be, and how a lot of places are named after them. The class was shortened by a lot so we did not get to learn that much so we decided to have fun. In class today we had two students teach. One student was Hank, the other was Demetri. Demetri did a great job teaching and is probably going to blog about that.

Reviewing test

today in class we got our test back. I did not do so well but I still got a B on the test. We went through all of the wanders on the test. On the test I got all answers on the first page correct. Then I broke down on the second page and got many questions wrong. Then we reviewed the essay. I chose the essay explaining Socrates trial. He underlined the good parts of the writing. for the most part I was good, but I messed up on the second crime he was accused of. I put "not believing in the gods," when it was impiety, "disrespecting the gods." On the essay some of the things I did good were describing the way he died and how the trial went down. during the trial he admitted to everything. Also I did good by including the score of the vote 279-221, and also stated both crimes had death penalties. Overall if I had gotten the second crime right I would have done better.

Satellites and tracking, also why to keep to yourself

In todays class we went over some reasons not to give your medical records to some places. It can cause you to lose jobs and opportunities that you had. It may also be able to lead to something that could cause death. Like, if someone who got information on somebody else, then learned they are struggling with drugs they may try and sell them dugs.

Satellites are in the sky and measure, scan, locate, and uncover things about the world. Satellites today provide GPSs'. A GPS is a navigation tool used by almost everyone. it measures how much time it will take you to go a certain distance. A lot of GPSs' often put in the factor of what is the speed you are moving at and how the conditions are. Traffic, rain, thunder, and many hail. Satellites have many uses and most of them are good. It could be bad if a bad person tracks someone.

Mr. Schick Read Carefully

I have loved this class for the semester. I loved how You/Mr. Schick interacted with the class. I had worried in the beginning of the yea...
